Sports look like big business, but they don't behave like most industries. Teams and leagues limit competition, restrict labor markets, and rely on rules that shape outcomes on and off the field. Sports economics uses these unique features to study incentives, market power, and policy in both college and professional sports.
This course is designed to provide a high-quality learning experience while keeping costs low. To achieve this, we use educational licenses and focus on readings from popular press books rather than traditional textbooks. Below, you’ll find a list of materials and accounts you'll need for this course.Â
I highly recommend ordering the first two books before the semester begins. They can be purchased at the campus bookstore or on Amazon for under $12 each (used). Information on accessing Datacamp and iClicker Cloud will be provided in Canvas when the course begins.
